Does anyone else feel like this week took forever to wrap up? Holy Toledo! I am so glad it's Friday. It's been an eventful week. Olivia had two doctor's appointments and got her first bruise after diving headfirst into a plastic giraffe. Did I mentioned we are sitting unassisted now? Yeah, we are. I am sure this will be the first of many!

Tonight we have husband's company party and the rest of the weekend calls for lots of running around. I think the silver lining is that January is over and we are one step closer to Spring. Yahoo!

Now...what to wear this evening...?

It's with much frequency as of late that I've made plans with girlfriends, on the catch-up circuit, and I've been asked the same two questions: has motherhood changed you? Can you believe you're a mom?

It got me thinking. How has motherhood changed me? There's no book for this stuff ya know? And it's weird because so much of my life is still the same. I talk to my parents everyday. I still work at the same job I have for the last 8 years. I still love fashion. And blogging. I have a blast with my husband. I love going out to eat. And anything with a drop of caffeine. What really has changed?

Well, I'll tell you. A lot has changed. For one, I didn't think it was possible to love another human being this much. There is a teeny tiny person who trusts and depends on me infinitely. Implicitely. You don't come by that often as an adult these days. My days of perfection and wanting to always be the best that I can be have shifted...to being the best mom I can be. And that's sometimes emotional. At my job, I used to be the best sales person. I know you're smirking but that's the truth. I was. And lucky for me I still love my company and my job. But, I'm not the best anymore. Truth is, I can't be and that's really hard. That's how motherhood has changed me. I can't be everywhere at one time and I can't devote the same amount of time to my job that I used to. Does that grate on me...absolutely, without question.

Know what else has changed? Friendships. Some have resurrected from the dead. That's a pleasant surprise. A breath of fresh air. Some fell flat...dead flat. They were hard transitions but I do believe that things happen in life for a reason. Some are brand new {thank you Blogger} and I am excited to see where they go. Some I've never met in person...yet. Imagine that. And above all, my time is pulled in so many different directions between being in denial about reaching perfection at my job or being a super mom that sometimes, I can't be the kinda friend I want to be. True story. I take longer to respond to texts and emails and even calls. That bothers me. I never used to be like that.

And then there is "keeping house" as they say. Let's just say that one went out the door. Not cooking but just overall tideness. If my husband could ghost write for this blog...man, you guys would pee your pants. I used to be so...ANAL. No longer. Spit up on the couch - no bigs, rub it in. Dishes in the sink - tomorrow I say! Overflowing garbage cans in the bathroom - shut the door! I need to get better at it but sometimes, it is somewhat liberating. I'm busy...there's a 8 9 month old that needs me!

There's one final frontier...my social life. There was a time when I went out Friday and Saturday. Yup - I was an animal. Now, I can't tell you the last time I went to a bar. Well actually I could...it was two weekends ago to eat lunch. Pffff. I went to bars for day drinking or even better, I left at 10pm on a Saturday to begin my night. Nowadays, if I have one eye open it's a GD miracle. Sleep...it's a mirage but when it comes down to a tight dress and heels vs. Mr. Sandman...here's a tip, Mr. Sandman always wins. Plus tight dresses with extra baby lbs is not my thing right now. Hello anything with elastic...how do you do?

So motherhood - yeah, it's changed me. A lot for the good and some for the not so good. I used to have more time to fixate on losing 5 more lbs, or wondering why someone didn't call me back or why I didn't close that deal or what it meant when she said this. Now, all I really care about is my baby, my husband and a daily shower. Is that too much to ask? I don't know...talk to me next week when I find out if I made my monthly sales quota.

Mommy Morsels: meet Ashley of Hither & Thither

Hither & Thither is by far one of my favorite, fellow parent blogs. I love the design of it. I love seeing pictures of Ashley's sweet little family and her son, Hudson, is a handsome little devil. My immediate attraction was the fact that this NY couple loves to travel and has no plans of stopping despite their new addition. A true modern family. {we share the same philosophies} I'm excite to share today's Mommy Morsels with you...meet Ashley!

Ever since Johanna asked me about the items I've been grateful for as a new mother, I've been trying to pay more attention; I realize it's easy to overlook them and instead dwell on how little storage we have in our tiny, 500 square-foot-studio. Or on how life might be easier if there were only a hallway between us and the baby's room...er... closet. But once I started mentally drawing up a list, I found it hard to stop. And I recognize that the luxuries I count on this (partial) list mean I have it pretty good.So thank you to my:

Ergo Carrier . We have a lovely, expensive stroller, but more often than not we carry the baby in the Ergo (and for the first two months, we carried him in a Sakura Bloom sling). Old buildings with narrow doors and packed-in tables, subways with lots of stairs, sidewalks crammed with people: New York can really pose a challenge to the stroller set. And Hudson still falls asleep easiest against our chests.

Many channels for delivery. I avoid unnecessary errands whenever possible. And for all of its challenges, New York sure comes through with convenient delivery options. Groceries from Fresh Direct, diapers from Diapers.com, laundry from the place down the street, and dinner from anywhere you want. Seamless Web and same-day Barnes & Noble delivery might not be available across the country, but I highly recommend outsourcing as many of these tasks as you can as a new parent. (That said, some sort of daily goal to make sure I get out each day is also high on my list of necessities--and sometimes a Trader Joe's run is in order.

Miracle Blanket. We've tried a few different swaddles, but keep coming back to this one.

White Noise machine. We have this and a fan near Hudson's crib and I am so grateful it's in there when a siren passes by (the unofficial, official soundtrack of the city) or, frankly, when we're having dinner at the table--oh, ten feet away.

Yoga Mat . It's not for me; I've recently discovered that a Yoga Mat is a great alternative to those cushy floor tiles if you want a non-slip, soft surface for your little one to practice his moves--and you want something that rolls up and can be put away again in no time.

Board Books. I'm sure I'm not the only one who, while loving those beautiful picture books like Symphony City, reads them with the baby in her lap a little cautiously because he wants to crumple, gum, or maybe tear the pages. The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the board book is in heavy rotation.

Dry Shampoo and lipstick. If I need to dash out and look presentable after little sleep and a distant-memory of a shower, these two items go a long way.

Iphone. What did I do before I had this? I use it for everything and swear it would be the best gift for any new parent. I check email and scan blogs; I can actually text (something that was tricky on my last flip phone), which is a quiet way to stay in contact with Aron; I get to take impromptu photos and videos of the baby and get pleasure out of photo apps like Instagram; and I can watch movies or TV shows with headphones while Hudson sleeps on my lap, or read the New York Times. I'm in love with the "Baby Connect" app for keeping track of sleep and all other functions/milestones Hudson has. And I use it to play "Bedtime Beats" on iTunes for winding down before every bedtime or nap.

Netflix Instant. Did I mention Hudson sometimes sleeps on my lap? And that I watched the entire archive of Mad Men when he was first home?

Aden + Anais bibs. My cousin gave us these and they are the best--first as burp cloths that really cover your shoulder and clothes and then as bibs that really cover his shoulders and clothes.

Very hands-on partner. I probably shouldn't admit this, but I can count on one hand the number of times Aron hasn't gotten up in the middle of the night with me. I should be more generous and tell him not to, considering he often works 15-hour days, but I try to justify it by the fact that, as we all live in one small room, there isn't much choice. Still, it's the only one of these things I really don't know how I'd do without. Days where I get up with Hudson and put him down by myself can be really rough, but for the past six months I've had Aron's help for nearly every single middle-of-the-night waking.

When I first "met" this D.C. blogger, I knew we'd be friends. She had an affinity for chocolate and Etsy. What more could you ask for? Twin separated at birth? Perhaps. As the months wore on, I loved Alena's sweet little blog for her clever online discoveries including dainty jewelry, smart home accents and special stationary. No doubt her blog is my go-to when I need a gift idea or just want to splurge on something special for...well, me. You'll love her, too. Meet Alena!

During the winter, I want to be cozy and warm at all times. Unfortunately, I can't be curled up on my couch with a blanket, tea and slippers for the next couple of months. Although, that does sound quite nice. Agreed? So, for my guest post for the lovely Johanna, I decided to talk about one of my favorite, cozy items....

Slippers!! If I am in my house, I am wearing my slippers. If I am in a hotel room or visiting family, I have my slippers. If it is cold or hot, I am inside wearing my slippers. I think you get the picture. I love me some slippers.

My current slippers? UGG Dakota Slippers. They are the best pair of slippers I've ever owned and I've gone through quite a few pairs of slippers. They also come in an array of pretty colors and are warm and cozy in the winter, but also work perfectly in hot weather. At $100 though, they are definitely a splurge.

I also found four other slippers that are a steal. Cute, cozy looking and less than $70. First up, these moccasin's look just like the UGG ones, but are less than half the price! Win. Win.

These look oh so cozy and have a non-slip sole just like the UGG ones.

The best of intentions...

This is the part, a recap if you will, where I tell you how our cleanse went. For the sake of full disclosure and to sum it up: we were a failure. It wasn't that it was hard to prepare the recipes or stock our fridge full of ingredients. It wasn't the fact that I had to go meatless for 3 days...nope, none of those. Do you know what it was? It was, speaking for myself - not husband, going without caffeine every day. It was too much. Too much in the sense that after having a raging headache for 2 days straight that we finally looked at each other and without saying anything; hi-5'd and ordered takeout. For the record, husband had a headache for 2 days straight, too and he doesn't even come close to the degree of caffeine addiction I have. {I blame this on Olivia and my new sleep schedule since having her}

And can I be even more honest? I really wanted to do this but we couldn't get past dinner on Day 2. The texture of the stews and soups...well, they kinda left us gagging. No bueno. We hit the ball out of the park with breakfast and lunch. Snacks, yeah, we got this. But we were starving! And oh, there was that coffee I bought @ Starbucks because I had meetings and I was fearful that I might strangle a client. Angrrrrry.

There. It's all out in the open. We failed. Would I do it again...yes, BUT I would do a fancy and pricier version like this one. Less guess work and a helluva lot tastier from what I hear.

And I have to tell you the clincher or what made me throw in the towel...and I felt guilty, trust in this. My husband looked at me and said, "Why would we continue doing something that made us feel awful? Being healthy shouldn't be this painful." And you know what, he's right.

Know what else...that chicken vesuvio that I ordered; it was friggin' delicious!

Social Friday!

Hey now...Happy Friday! Tonight we lift the ban on "zero plans Friday" and kick off the weekend with a Mexican fiesta with some friends! {hello, margaritas!} Although, I'm a little worried that our plans may be squashed due to a heavy winter storm heading our way. Fingers crossed.

Our weekend doesn't stop there, either...we will be driving to the burbs to celebrate our friends' new digs and attending a kiddie birthday party, too. By Sunday we should be good and tired...resuming normal weekend life yet once again.

What are your plans? Celebrating anything fun or just life in general?

P.S. Olivia is sitting up! It's really cute to see her fuzzy little head sitting on top of such a perfectly postured little body. Just kills me.

Catch a second of any award show red carpet and it's painfully obvious - BLUSH is the color of the moment. And you don't have to twist my arm...IMO, blush is everything feminine and flattering. Detoxification

So...along with everyone's 2012 resolutions resonating in the blogosphere as of late...I thought I'd clean up my act as well. In the food department, that is. A friend of mine printed me a 3-day cleanse that husband and I are giving a shot; starting today. You can eat, too which let's face it - was a non-negotiable. I'd be lying if I said I didn't abuse chocolate over the holidays so to say this is not a test of my willpower would be an understatement. My hope is to detox, get rid of the cravings and maybe lose 2-3 lbs. This is our first shot at a cleanse. I am over the drinking but coffee...yikes, wish me luck!

Have you guys every detoxed or done a cleanse? What were the results? Would you ever do one again?

It was really great to meet the creative minds behind some of Chicago's most popular blogs. We're ready! It's been a year since our last big trip to Brazil and even longer since our beloved trip to Thailand. *le sigh* Traveling will clearly be different now but the babe isn't going to slow us down all together. In fact, we are currently researching destinations and I'd love your suggestions or opinions. We want to avoid domestic if we can but we don't feel like a long plane ride to Europe and beyond...which leaves the islands. Here's what's on our list:

St. Thomas
Aruba
St. Lucia
Turks
Costa Rica
Grand Cayman
Bahamas

I am sure we are missing some fabulous destinations. What do you guys think? We'd like to go sometime in March and avoid Spring Breakers. And O will be 10 months old! Whoa. A 4-hour plane right sounds manageable.

With the start of the new year, I have been going crazy with updates for our home. As most of us do, usually I try to find the best possible deals for home decor, but for key items that are too good to pass up, I don't! Here are some things that I have recently added (or am seriously considering adding) to our modern style apartment.

SPLURGE! I recently received a dress form for a blogger challenge, but I was this close to snagging this one.

STEAL! After seeing this tip on Pinterest I spray painted a bag of coffee beans and placed them in a clear vase.

SPLURGE! I think a great accent piece for your kitchen does wonders. Since our apartment is modern and bold, I had to have this Alessi fruit bowl.

STEAL! A bar cart is another item that I just have to have. Check out this $90 mod version. For a bar cart, that's a steal!

SPLURGE! If I didn't already have chevron curtains, I would definitely splurge on this chevron rug. So fab!

Hey Friday - glad to meet ya! I was dreading diving back into work this week but let me tell ya...this has been a wonderful week. We received all sorts of good news that I can't wait to share with you very soon! Besides, you'll never hear me complain about a 4-day work week...am I right?

What's on your agenda? We are laying low and getting organized with a visit to my parents since my dad is recovering from knee replacement surgery. Not to worry though...he's a total champ. I think on Day 3 my mom told me she woke up to him making eggs in the kitchen with his walker. Seriously...who does that?

Enjoy some R&R and this nutso weather. 50 degress, hello! I heard on the news that 98% of our nation is above average temps. Global warming anyone?

...kicking off my list with a splurge - as in "splurge on the calories." It's no secret that we all gravitate towards comfort food in the colder months and I've never met a panini that I didn't like. Namely a pesto, tomato, basil panini.

...another splurge - skincare. I always fall back on Kiehls when my skin goes awry and the jig is up...my skin is going berserk with the recent surge of cold in Chicago.

...my third and final splurge is Schramsberg 2007 Blanc de Noirs champagne. It was love at first sight when I toured this romantic vineyard seated in the heart of Calistoga. Some may not agree that a $32 bottle of champers is a splurge but it is to me...especially on a Wednesday when paired with our fave TV show: Top Chef.

...steals: This is easy. My beloved Target fedora was a whopping $19.99 and it makes me feel oh-so-chic plus it keeps my little noggin warm. Saves me precious blow dryer time, too!

...and colored tights. I tested the trend last year and it was a hit. Nothing turns a gray day on its head like a pair of tomato red tights and a fun Mary Jane. Game changer.

Wow. What a year! Here's what I learned...remember last year's?

{in no apparent order and still based on my opinion only}

I am an intense person. As in...I feel intensely about the people and things I love and conversely the opposite.
I think saving money kinda sucks.
I know by the time I write this that I will be ready for another vacation. I miss travel but I LOVE baby girl.
Moving to the suburbs does not frighten me anymore.
My love for honey crisp apples is now tied with oranges and mangoes.
Colored tights make winter a heck of a lot BRIGHTER. Why didn't I rock these before?
My friends are like cats...they always land on their feet even after hard times.
My parents think everything and everywhere outside our hometownis dangerous. {you know it's true!}
Seeing my brother go through a bad breakup makes me sad.
Seeing my brother meet a really great girl makes me happy.
Seeing my brother's bare a*s makes me scared. {don't ask...it was a night of imbibing for him}
Lucy now has unconditional love for someone else besides husband and I...baby, too!
Strollers are heavy.
Wine is divine after a 9 7-month hiatus.
Having bigger boobs from pregnancy is the ~~cat's meow~~. I retract this statement. Overrated.
Having a bigger butt...not so much.
I still don't want an iPhone.
I kinda think anonymous, mean blog comments are lame. Stop hiding or reading; one of the two.
Frozen yogurt...yes, you are very good.
I am never driving a minivan.
Sometimes I wish I could meet more of my blog friends in person. I love you guys!
Husband is a really good dad. But I knew that going in.
Natural disasters really stink but on the flip side, they make me ever so grateful for what I have.
I never ever want to be sick or hospitalized for a long period of time. But, who does?!
You really don't need that much sleep to survive.
Color blocking is the best trend to hit fashion, in my books.
Being perfect at work and at home is tough stuff. Guess I'll have to pick one.

Last year we went to the Zoo Lights with the idea that we would start a new tradition as our family grew. At the time, Olivia was the size of a lime, at best. This year, however, the Little Miss is an active baby hence we were excited to renew the tradition once again. Unfortunately, Olivia zonked out in her stroller which left us fake coughing in hopes to wake her up. Totally normal.

Christmas & Green Beans

This was the Christmas dress I bought in October for Olivia. You can imagine the excitement I was feeling to doll her up for our Christmas dinner. This dress lasted 15 minutes before she spit up green beans all over it; repeatedly. In fact, you can see it's a little saturated under the bow.

I can honestly tell you that my final "Dear Santa" is completely frivolous. Meaning...a luxury item that I probably wouldn't get a lot of mileage out of but I love 'em anyways! Then again, isn't that what wish lists are all about? Can you believe Christmas is this week?

And yes, these are full on sequin pants in peony. There's something very Miss Havisham about these; perhaps that's the draw for me. Who wouldn't like a little Dries Van Noten in their closet? I'd mix it with a gray, cashmere turtleneck and a long strand of pearls. Tres chic!

Oh Pinterest...where have you been all my life? Admittedly I have been feeling a tad uninspired this year. It seems like we all have so much on our plates that Christmas is coming and going and I am totally unprepared. Not normal in these parts.

But! Nobody likes a complainer so I've rounded up my favorite Pinterest images in hopes that I will begin to feel the Christmas magic. After all, I owe it to the Little Miss, regardless if she will remember it or not. We even attempted to kick things off last night by keeping our tickets to the Nutcracker. I have a great job, really, I do. And one of the greatest things about it was the travel. For a long time, I was making biweekly visits to NYC for meetings and the such. Admittedly, I got spoiled because I was technically living between two great cities.

I wouldn't trade a thing in terms of the past year and all but something's got me missing NYC hard as of late. Now I feel like I took for granted those busy-stiletto-crushing-cab-hailing-rush hour-sweating-pencil-skirt-wearing business trips when I had just enough time to sneak in a quick visit to TopShop in between meetings. Or smell roasted peanuts. Or meet my bestie for a cocktail @ the Ritz. Or nosh on a black and white cookie. Or give directions to a total stranger. Those were fun days.

There's only one cure for my Big Apple itch. Time to head back and visit my dear friend for an unexpected work trip. The timing is a smidge stressful but I welcome the opportunity to blend into the sea of suits. Wish me luck!

Ever since I had Olivia, I've wanted something special with her initial to wear and this delicate, gold necklace fits the bill. Today we have heavy hearts. My father-in-law, husband's dad, Olivia's grandfather...is no longer with us.

We are sad but we know he is in a better place and his suffering has ended. In fact, if I had to guess, I would bet that he is in heaven fishing or putzing around with a new project. Those things ranked pretty high up on his list of hobbies.

Thank you for all of your positive vibes, prayers and emails. It's nice to know that we are sending him off with love and comfort. And I will share each one with husband.

Please keep husband in your thoughts during this difficult time. We are going to load up on the hugs and snuggles. Thank goodness for cherub babies and toothless grins.

Tonka Truck = BEST GIFT EVER.: Classic, metal, tough. I got one for Henry at my baby shower, and then another one later from our friend. One per kid is the best ratio, so they can chase each other around the yard. *not just for boys, girls love them too!
Boogie Wipes :Crusties come off like butter. ‘nuff said.
Boys clothes from Target: 99% of our shirts come from Target. They are thick, wash well and have the cutest designs. They also use the word AWESOME in a lot of tops, which we may or may not own all of them.
Dwell Studio Color and Count Place mats: Peel off and have little ones color away waiting for lunch. Then toss the place mat (and sticky mess) away. Perfect.
Use Crayola crayons: Spend the extra cents and get the good crayons. Seriously.
Skippyjon Jones: Hunter’s favorite book ever. I have to say the greatest book to read, once you get the hang of it...don’t forget a fake accent for fun! Hunter was Skippyjon Jones for Halloween this year, but I didn’t know they already had a costume. Pleased as punch that I made a green cape, got a mask, added ears and a tail for it. Found this kit while I was grabbing links. OY! Psst. mines cuter!
Schleich Toys: Best animal toys ever. My boys love these as much as legos. Sometimes more, depending on the day. I didn’t put legos on the list, because honestly, who doesn’t love legos. These, on the other hand, are so cool I even stole some to make those cupcake toppers of mine. Yes, I had to replace them immediately.
Cowboy Boots: A H+H staple since Henry was 2. Both boys have pairs and wear them more than any other pair of shoes they own. Henry only doesn’t wear them when he wants to “run.” I’m pretty sure these are why my kids can’t tie their own shoes.
*shhhhhhh....super secret weapon: ABCYA.com: I use this when I really have to do a photo shoot and NOTHING will keep them occupied. For use with emergencies only, if they get bored with this I have nothing left. Ok, besides having to learn how to shoot in artificial light after they go to sleep, boo.

You guys...what a week! I have not had a cold this bad in ages. I've been med'ed up while trying to suck down every recommended glass of water, juice, Emergen-c and cup of tea. It ain't pretty. Gifting Guide: for the nanny

The No. 2 pencil skirt by J.Crew. I love it because it's classic but I can choose a punch of color and in this case, the spicy gold is my color du jour for this year's Christmas list. I see this color as versatile as black. With this year's vibrant color trends, you could pair this skirt with red pussy bow blouses, navy polka dots, leopard and more! I sure hope bright colors never go away! There are a variety of different fabrics, too but I chose wool so that I can dress it up this winter and still be warm in a skirt complimented by some funky, textured tights.

'Tis the season! My family always asks for my wish list...well, let's just say I thought I'd make it easy on them. Pretty thoughtful, huh? And while I know Christmas is about much more than gifts; I just think it's fun to go shopping virtually. Really, it's my Sunday activity when food is cooking and baby is sleeping so indulge me! Each week I plan to post one item that I would be thrilled to open Christmas Day.

This week I've got shoes on the brain and truth be told, I've been coveting these suede, fringe boots for about 2.5 years. Fun with leggings, tights, dresses and tunics. I like to think I am channeling my inner boho goddess.

If you're the type of person who has a hard time getting into the holiday spirit...look no further. The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival is the answer to your scroogi{ness}. We started this tradition last year when I was a minute pregnant and decided it needed to become a tradition. Actually, I decided it needed to become a tradition and husband obliged, good man that he is. Even though our nugget is only 6 months, I envision this becoming a really fun memory for her and something that she will get into more and more as she gets older.

We really lucked out as the car read 58 degrees! Perfect temps!

Husband took this shot and it's my favorite. It completely captures the spirit plus I love how Mickey is the only thing in focus!

I'm a huge fan of stud earrings. While I usually reserve chandeliers for fancy date nights, diamond studs are pretty much my go-to. Five Fall Faves: meet Hunter of navy & orange

I am excited to introduce Hunter and her adorable blog to you: navy & orange. Hunter culminates the end of my Five Fall Fave series...she may be the last blogger but certainly not the least! Her style is unmatched as her posts exhibit only the trendiest and most classic navy & orange accessories and apparel. It's easy to get addicted...plus orange is my favorite color so there you have it...match made in heaven! Enjoy!

I'm Hunter from navy & orange and I am honored to be be featured on Johanna's blog, a daily read! Fall is is favorite season, by far, but this year there is even more to celebrate with a new hubby, puppy and house, which means looking for an excuse to be cozy by the fire will be easier than ever!

1. I live in southern California so any excuse to be out of the uniform of jeans and flip flops is gladly appreciated. My current fall outfit is leggings, boots and a chunky sweater. How great is this one from J. crew? I'm adding this to my birthday wish list, for sure!

2. The fall means more rain, which means more excuses to wear my Hunter boots! It doesn't rain much here, but if it looks like there is the slightest chance, I definitely add my navy ones to any outfit. I feel as if it is only appropriate, given my name.

3. In my family we have 7 birthdays (including mine) from the end of September to the end of October, so birthday celebrations and thus champagne are definitely one of my fall faves.

4.If you couldn't tell from the name of my blog, orange is one of my favorite things, so I love seeing more orange incorporated everywhere this time of year.

5. The beginning of fall means the end of the year so I love to begin the search for the perfect party dress. This dress from Milly will easily carry me from birthday celebrations to Thanksgiving and could even be worn as a New Year's Eve dress.

He's back. That jerk you couldn't shake last year. He sweeps into your life without a warning and leaves you shaking in your boots. Quite literally. He doesn't snuggle or whisper sweet nothings in your ear. He offers only a cold shoulder and sometimes if you're lucky, a howl. I've rounded up some fairly inexpensive options for you that promise major ROI in the coming months when paired with tights OR more party dresses. {By the way, love your prom dress choice!} And since "bold" is the name of the game...I went all out. Leopard is the new neutral so I threw two choices in for good measure. However, cobalt and purple would really add some pizazz to this dress...just add accessories and a fun clutch. And if you are uneasy about too much color, go for #2 because nude elongates the leg plus it's not your momma's nude shoe. This pair is studded. Ooooh la la!

...quite a bit by the looks of this post! There's so much I haven't blogged about that I decided to take a breather from fashion and share my latest loves.

When I saw Jenny's neato party animal candles; I just knew I needed to take a shot at this DIY project. So, off I went to The Dollar Store and came home with toy horses and dinosaurs. This lil' guy is getting a makeover...with white spray paint.

Gingham is back in a big way, thanks to J.Crew. I found a less expensive version through my favorite vintage online retailer - El Vintage. She updates her Etsy store with the best finds. It's safe to say I am addicted.

My parents recently took a trip to Greece finishing off in Venice. This treasure was a result of their trip and one that Olivia will soon gaze up at from her changing table. Timeless.

The owl fix has not gone away. It's just been awhile since we've acquired new additions. These friendly hooters are from Pier 1.

Hello toes! The real reason I took this pic is because I scored at Old Navy on a recent whim. $7 for a super cute leopard blouse to pair with my fuchsia pencil skirt!

Do you remember my obsession for rose gold? I've linked up to watches, necklaces, rings...you name it. Well, I finally satiated my thirst..for now. Picked up an inexpensive rose gold watch for everyday. I love the men's wear look and size of it.

Sock It to Me!

Let's face it...I write about shoes quite a bit. As November rounds out and the holidays approach; long gone are the days of bare legs and stilettos. This is boot season! And with every good pair of boots, one must have an AWESOME pair of socks. In fact, I would venture to say that a snazzy pair of socks actually puts a smile on my face...a kick start to my morning, if you will.

When Sock It to Me approached me asking me if I would be interested in reviewing their socks...all it took was one look at their website and it was a resounding, "YES, PLEASE!" Socks do not get more fabulous than this, my people. As you can see, not only do my husband and I enjoy their fun designs, but Baby O does, too. I mean...baby leg warmers + little thighs = adorable!

I chose the Bonjour design, husband chose the Mustache and Livie chose the Elephant and Giraffe design. They are so fun when you see them peeking out from a suit or skimming the tops of your knee high boots. F.U.N.

Five Fall Faves: meet Tabitha of Defining Tabitha

When I first stumbled upon Tabitha's blog, I thought two things: 1. She has fantastic dimples and 2. What a great hair cut! Obviously I dug a little bit deeper than her profile, and every day since it's been a pleasure to check in and see what's going on in her world. From recipes made easy to adorable stylings...Tabitha is the girl you instantly want to become friends with. Now it's your turn...have fun exploring what defines Tabitha!

Fur vest: Nothing says Fall like fur. What better way to dress up an outfit than to top it off with fur. It not only keeps you warm, but makes you feel glamorous – even if you’re just running an errand in your yoga pants.

Polka dot dress: I’ve loved polka dot dresses ever since Julia Roberts wore her brown dress in Pretty Woman. It’s a fantastic print that looks great on everyone. Unlike stripes, you rarely have to worry about whether or not it makes you look fat.

Campus boots: This style of boots have a shelf life longer than the Twinkie. It comes back every Fall season and is the perfect boot to throw on over a pair of cigarette jeans or to pair with dress and tights.

Camel wool coat: I rarely buy anything in black so I resort to colors like camel in the Fall to pair with everything. Camel is the perfect neutral color and reminds me so much of the leaves changing color.

Leopard blouse: I’m fairly new to the animal print trend. For the longest time I just didn’t think it fit my personality, but I’ve finally given in and have confessed my love for it. This leopard print blouse is perfect because it can be paired with colored denim (like red) to be worn on the weekends or paired with a pencil black skirt for mid-week style. Either way it’s a great staple to have and perfect to pair with the fur vest.

Halloween in the city.

Who says Halloween isn't cool in the city? This week we tagged along with some friends for trick-or-treating. Let it be said that their neighborhood knows how to get in the spirit. Each house was completely decked out and the streets were teaming with little ones in full regal. I saw astronauts, cowgirls, princesses, dragons...you name it! And the parents! I love anyone who knows and appreciates Halloween as much as I do. In fact, I like Halloween better than Thanksgiving and Christmas!

The no-judgement zone

A friend recently relayed a story to me about her daughter at school. For quite some time that little girl was best friends with another little girl. They were happy as clams. Then school started and the playground got bigger. In fact, it was the transition from Kindergarten to First Grade. More kids, bigger class rooms. Turns out my friend's daughter {and don't quote me because I am digging within the bowels of my memory} started to notice that her best friend seemed less interested in her. They used to share the same interests but lately, it seemed like she was interested in the other little girls more. She in fact, became a ring leader of sorts and grew a new entourage of diligent followers. And one night, my friend's daughter broke the silence and tearfully told her mom that her best friend was becoming closer to the other girls and didn't want to play her games on the playground anymore. In a way, they had outgrown each other. Tough stuff at such a young age.

That conversation bounces around in my head quite a bit. One...because my friend and I both have daughters so naturally I think of my Olivia feeling this way one day which is totally inevitable and heart breaking at the same time. And two...because I've been through this more times than I can count and it really stopped me in my tracks. If you think about it, females are challenging and we've been facing the same issues starting at the age of 6 to the age of 66. Even my mother and her friends relay stories of women cutting down each other or showing a lack of support for each other. Look at reality TV! It's a complete judgement zone out there.

And then I think of myself. My friends. Their stories and my stories. By your mid 30's, you've started to see a bit more than the golden days of hearts and rainbows. People make mistakes. You make mistakes. I think it's a thing called life from what I hear. And yet, the story of the playground still resonates with me except I/we are now on an adult playground but the "games" are really the same. I guess my point is...while I am not perfect, I'd like to think I've made some progress on my flaws and in turn, opened up my mind to accepting and finding the good in all types of people. {trying as it may be sometimes} And I think it's a good reminder that we all should...should find the good in people and accept everyone into our group. The above quote was a springboard for this topic so from now on...I am declaring 101 things i love a "no judgement zone." Perhaps this is the single most principle I want to instill in Olivia, too.

My question for you is...how do you feel about this topic?

I don't know. This whole carving thing really tans my hide. Maybe you remember last year...when my pumpkin lost. Or the year before that...yep, lost that year, too. Wait...what are you talking about Johanna? Oh you're new to the blog. Let me tell you about our annual carving contest in which...drum roll...I lose every friggin' year. Observe below.

We line up all pumpkins including Olivia's and send pics to our families for voting. I should mention our friends carve with us every year, too. And last year, one of them got as creative as stabbing her pumpkin with a screw driver to make stars and got more votes than mine. Angry...nah.....

So this is our friend's pumpkin. Admittedly cute...and the winner in my opinion. I like a jolly jack-o-lantern now and then.

Olivia's pumpkin. I spray painted it white and carved a heart. Pretty much everyone thought it was a hole. Just a black hole. Mmmmkay. {you know who you are ~~traitors~~, grandparents}

My pumpkin. OK I'm going to admit something. I saw Martha create this pumpkin on the Today Show last week and thought, "This is it! This is my year! I'm going to beat everyone with this design!" Sadly, no. I really thought I had something here. It was like a rat cave and I even had rubber rats. Spooky, no?

And this was husband's pumpkin. Yeah, I know. A spooky, angry pumpkin. Yeah...all boo and stuff. Whatever...he stole my rats which constitutes as cheating in my books.

So yeah, I'm bitter. Both my daughter's pumpkin and mine lost severely. I might bow out next year. "Might" being the operative word.
